Who is responsible for your data

Money Behaves (https://moneybehaves.com) is owned and operated by Lorena Ballester, who is the data controller responsible for the personal data processed through this website.

If you have any question about this policy or about your data, you can write to us at admin@moneybehaves.com or use our contact page. More information about the website is available in our Legal Notice.

Data we collect

When you write to us through the contact form or by email, we receive your name, your email address, the subject and the content of your message. If comments are open on a lesson and you leave one, we receive your name, your email address, your website if you add it, the comment itself and technical details such as your IP address and browser, which help us publish the comment and prevent spam.

When you visit the website, some technical information is also collected automatically by our hosting, security, statistics and advertising services. This can include your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, approximate location at country or city level, the website that sent you here, the pages you view, the date and time of your visit and cookie or device identifiers. You can read more about cookies in our Cookie Policy.

Money Behaves is an educational website, not a bank, lender or other financial institution, and we never ask for nonpublic personal financial information. Please do not send us bank or card numbers, your Social Security number, passwords, account logins or tax details in messages or comments.

Why we use your data

We use the information you send us to answer your messages and questions. This is based on your request and on our legitimate interest in replying to you. When you leave a comment, we use your data to publish and moderate it, based on the consent you give when you submit it.

We also use technical data to keep the website secure, working properly and free of spam, based on our legitimate interest. Statistics help us understand which lessons are useful and how to improve them; where cookies are involved, we only use them with your consent. Ads help fund the website: personalized ads are only shown with your consent where the law requires it, and non-personalized ads rely on our legitimate interest in covering the cost of running Money Behaves. Finally, we may process data when the law requires it.

We do not use your data to make automated decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects on you, and we never use it to give you personalized financial advice.

Advertising

Money Behaves uses Google AdSense to show ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalized advertising at any time in Google Ads Settings, or at aboutads.info for other participating third-party vendors. You can also change your choices through the cookie settings on this website, explained in our Cookie Policy. To learn more, read how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and Google’s Privacy Policy.

This means that third parties such as Google may collect information about your online activities over time and across different websites when you use Money Behaves. Ads never influence the content of our lessons, and we do not choose which individual ads are shown.

Statistics

We may use Google Analytics and Google Site Kit to understand which lessons are read and how the website performs. We look at this information as a whole and do not use it to identify you.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell your personal data. We only share it with the service providers that help us run the website, and only as far as they need it. These include our web hosting provider, Google for advertising and statistics, our cookie consent tool, which stores your cookie choices, and the security, caching and spam-protection tools used on the website. We may also disclose data if the law requires it or to protect the rights and safety of the website and its users.

Our lessons link to external websites, such as U.S. government agencies and research publishers. Those websites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their content or privacy practices.

International transfers

Some of our providers, such as Google, are based in the United States or process data there. When personal data from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom is transferred outside it, these transfers rely on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension where the provider is certified, or on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep your data

We keep messages for up to 12 months after our last reply, unless we need them longer to handle your request. Comments stay on the website while the lesson is published, or until you ask us to delete them. Cookies last for the periods described in our Cookie Policy, and technical and security logs are kept for the periods set by our hosting and security providers.

Your rights if you are in the EU or UK

Under the GDPR and the UK GDPR, you can ask to access the personal data we hold about you, correct it if it is wrong, or delete it. You can also restrict or object to certain uses of your data, including those based on our legitimate interest, receive your data in a portable format, and withdraw your consent at any time without affecting what was done before.

To exercise any of these rights, email admin@moneybehaves.com. We will reply within one month. If you believe your rights have not been respected, you can also file a complaint with a data protection authority, in particular the one in the country where you live or work.

Your rights if you are in the United States

In the last 12 months, Money Behaves may have collected the following categories of personal information: identifiers, such as your name, email address, IP address and cookie or device identifiers; internet activity, such as the pages you view and how you interact with the website; and approximate location based on your IP address. Our advertising partners may also use this information to make inferences about your interests in order to show relevant ads. We collect this information directly from you when you contact us or comment, and automatically when you visit the website. We use it for the purposes described in this policy.

We do not sell personal information for money, and we do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16. However, when personalized ads are shown, some state laws may treat the use of cookies by advertising partners as a “sale”, “sharing” or “targeted advertising”. You can opt out of it at any time through the cookie settings on this website or in Google Ads Settings.

Depending on the state where you live, such as California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas or Oregon, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to access it, correct it, delete it and receive a copy, and to opt out of targeted advertising. To make a request, email admin@moneybehaves.com. We may need to confirm your identity before we act on it, and we will reply within 45 days. You can also ask someone you authorize to make the request for you. If we decline your request, you can appeal our decision by replying to our answer, and we will explain the result of your appeal. We will not treat you differently for exercising your privacy rights.

California residents

This policy is intended to meet the California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA). Under California’s “Shine the Light” law, you may ask whether we share personal information with third parties for their own direct marketing purposes. We do not share your personal information with third parties for their direct marketing.

Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” setting. Because there is no common industry standard for how websites should respond to it, Money Behaves does not currently respond to Do Not Track signals. As explained in the advertising section, third parties such as Google may collect information about your online activities over time and across websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising at any time through the cookie settings on this website or in Google Ads Settings.

Children’s privacy

Money Behaves is written for adults and is not directed to children. In line with the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13, or under the minimum age required by the law of their country. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Security and changes to this policy

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, such as an encrypted connection (HTTPS), security tools and restricted access to the website administration. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We may update this Privacy Policy when our services or legal obligations change. When we do, we will publish the new version on this page and change the “Last updated” date at the top. If the changes are important, we may also show a notice on the website.
